Age specific programs are divided into Discovery Camps (ages 7-9), Explorer Camps (ages 10-12), and Adventure Camps (ages 13-15) with a special Adventures in Leadership Camp for 16 year-olds. All ages may be at camp each week so family members may all come at the same time.Campers may participate in activities such as swimming, archery, arts and crafts, nature study, outdoor living skills, camping, cooking out, various sports, cooperative games, challenge course, drama, puppetry, music, dancing, bible study, worship, fishing, canoeing, storytelling, as well as family living skills such as housekeeping in cabins, mealtime rituals, praying together and more.
Discovery Camps provide an exciting week of fun for younger campers that introduces them to the all-around camp experience. Friendships are developed here that continue and are renewed each year the camper returns to camp.
Explorer Camps allow campers to choose a more specialized camp experience and plan, with their family group, many of their own activities for the week. Several options are offered for Explorer campers:
- Sherwood Camp offers all-around camp activities while emphasizing community building and a special appreciation for nature.
- Aquatics Camp We have 2 specialized aquatics camps. Sports and Aquatics gives the camper a chance to participate in a variety of organized sports as well as aquatic activities such as; swimming, canoeing and other water games. Aquatics and Canoe focuses mainly on water activities. This group takes a day trip to Bear Creek in Tishomingo State Park.
- Night Owl Camp Does staying up late and getting to sleep late sound like fun to you? Eat a light late breakfast with your cabin group and then join the rest of the camp for lunch and supper and enjoy a late-night snack by the campfire. Campers will enjoy crafts, swimming, canoeing and the challenge course during the day and save the nights for campfires, night hikes, worship beneath the stars and glow-in-the-dark games.
- M.A.D Camp Are you “mad” about the arts? Do you love to perform? Are you excited about learning new things and meeting new challenges? Are you a budding star? If any of these questions apply to you, then you will want to join us this summer for an exciting camp for our Explorer aged kids. Music, Arts and Drama Camp will be a week-long experience into stage production. Campers will journey with a guest artist through the process of learning new musical and drama material, building set and creating costumes and props and performing all that they have learned for other campers and their parents. There is something for everyone at this camp, so join us!
- Explorer Up the Challenge--If you choose to push the element a bit and take your adventures to a new level, then this camp session is just right for you! Up the Challenge is a new camp being offered for those campers who especially love the excitement of the Challenge Course. During this session, campers will spend each day experiencing new challenges, such as low and high challenge, survivor-style challenges, group challenges and especially spiritual challenges. Sign Up!
- Adventure White Water Rafting — Adventure rafters will spend the first night at camp doing team building before spending Monday-Thursday riding the rapids. They will be staying at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, near Bryson City, NC, rafting on several different rivers in the area.
- Adventure Canoeing — Adventure canoe campers spend time at Hopewell learning the skills they will need for a canoe trip, which will be in Missouri. They will canoe during the day and camp out along the river. Campers will also participate in other usual camp activities.
- Adventures at Hopewell *NEW*---Campers will arrive on Sunday, do some new and exciting group challenges, and then, as a group, plan their schedule for the week! What do you like best about camp? Want to stay up late, sleep in, swim often, lead Bible study, zip twice, play much Ultimate, plan a menu… you get to decide!
*NEW* Leadership Camp has gone to two weeks! For campers’ first week, they will stay as campers together in their own cabin, participating in camp activities, learning many forms of leadership skills and having lots of fun! When all of the other campers leave on Saturday morning, Leadership Campers will stay at Hopewell under a director’s supervision, working, playing and worshipping together with staff members. On Sunday, when a new group of campers arrive, the Leadership Campers become Support Staff for the week, staying in different cabins with different camper groups and having the opportunity to try out all of those leadership skills learned from their first week.
